Punzel Gets It Done As Eskymos Slap Knights, 10-1

ESCANABA---Brandon Punzel had three hits and drove in four runs, and he pitched a complete game on the mound Wednesday afternoon as the Escanaba Eskymos turned back the Norway Knights, 10-1, at Al Ness Field.

Norway scored in the first inning when John Edwardsen singled, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a hit by Cody Carlson.

But that would be the only time the Knights would score against Punzel, who fanned the final two batters of that inning.

Escanaba took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, and then added two more in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.  A five-run sixth inning put the game away for the Eskymos, who had twelve hits in the game. Norway had four base hits.

Besides Punzel's three hits...Hunter LaMarch, Parker LaMarch, and Tyler Skufca also had two hits for the Eskymos. On the mound, Punzel fanned ten batters and walked none.

See the stats from Wednesday's game below.

The Eskymos will play North Central in a make-up doubleheader Thursday at 5:00.

Then, the Eskymos host the Bink's Coca-Cola Tournament on Saturday at Al Ness Field. The Eskymos face Negaunee at 10:00 a.m., then Bark River-Harris takes on Shawano (Wis.) at 12:30. The third place game is at 3:00, and the championship game is at 5:30.

WCHT-AM (600) will not broadcast the 10 a.m. game, but the final three games will be aired live. The games will also be broadcast on the Internet at www.rrnsports.com.
