Braves Beat Norway; Eskymos Lose In Marquette
GLADSTONE---It didn't take long for the Gladstone High School tennis team to post an 8-0 win over the Norway Knights Monday in Gladstone.
And it's a good thing, because Cody Frazer had to sprint to Marquette to join his Indians baseball team after he and Bryce Wolf dominated their #1 doubles match over Shane Wery and Matt Langlais, 6-0, 6-3. Frazer then arrived at his baseball game in time to go 3-for-3 and he drove in all three of his team's runs in a 3-2 victory. "Luckily, we got it done relatively-quickly," Frazer said. "It's always good to get two wins in a day. We drove up to Marquette, and I missed (baseball) warm-ups, but it worked." As for the tennis match, Aaron Parmet swept all 12 games from Randy Mueller at #1 singles, and Josh DeVet and John Hammar won their #2 doubles match by the same 6-0, 6-0 score. The Braves earned a forfeit in the #4 doubles flight. Gladstone is off on Tuesday and will travel to Escanaba for a match on Wednesday. Monday's results:

4 Gladstone wins by forfeit. MARQUETTE 8, ESCANABA 0---The Escanaba High School tennis team ran into a tough opponent on Monday, dropping a Great Northern Conference match in Marquette, 8-0. The Eskymos managed to win only two sets: Tyler Myrick at #2 singles and John Brandt at #3 singles.
"It didn't feel like we lost 8-0 today. We won 57 games today and played some of the best tennis we have all year. Unfortunately we didn't come out on top," Eskymo Coach Jim Hansen said. "We have been playing tough all year and ending up a little short in tight matches and tiebreakers."
Tyler Myrick lost a tough one, 4-6, 6-1, 4-6.
"My heart goes out to the kids because they are working so hard," Hansen said. "It's difficult to keep frustration at bay. We've told the kids just keep chopping. No matter how deep the woods are, just keep chopping and eventually you'll find your way out."
The Eskymos travel to Kingsford for another GNC match on Tuesday. Then, Escanaba has two more conference matches at home on Wednesday against Gladstone and Kingsford. "Tyler Myrick made me very proud today," Hansen said. "In vintage Tyler Myrick style, he battled in a three-set marathon match. He is a great role model for the rest of the team. He was down 5-0 at one point in the last set and fought until the end." Monday's results:
