Big First Half Leads Escanaba Girls Past Negaunee
ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School girls basketball team rolled to a 19-point lead in the first half and cruised to a 61-51 win over the Negaunee Miners Wednesday night in Escanaba. The win avenged a 55-52 loss to the Miners on December 9 in Negaunee. Escanaba led, 19-9, after the first quarter, and then rolled to a 29-10 lead midway through the second quarter. The Miners scored eight straight points to get to within 29-18, and trailed at halftime, 31-18. Negaunee never got closer than ten points in the second half. Michelle LaFave scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Eskymos. Fellow senior Sam Connor celebrated her 18th birthday by scoring 14 points. Courtney Clickner led Negaunee (4-11) with 14 points. Negaunee won Wednesday night's junior varsity game, 53-30. With the varsity victory, Escanaba improved to 3-10 on the season.
