U.P. Youth Football Opens New Season In Escanaba

ESCANABA--- The U.P Youth Football League began last week, but kids participated in practice Tuesday in Escanaba.

The kids got their helmets fitted, along with doing some drills as individual teams.

The league is run by Elvis and Boston Hood, and  consists of youngsters of all different ages seperated into four different divisions.

"We divide them up into divisions, we have four divisions and they start from five/six, seven/eight, nine/ten, and eleven/twelve, and that's how we do that for the age groups," Interim President Boston Hood said.

There are 127 kids total that are divided into those four divisions and they will begin their regular season on September 6th.

The league has been run for quite some time now, teaching kids alot of the basic techniques of football and plays.

"My dad started this league with a bunch of local parents back in 1999, so that will make this our 15th year," Hood said.

The kids will be at Elmer's County Market on August 22nd and will sell hot dogs and brats for fundraising.
