Joe Quinn Wins Playoff Hole To Take UPGA Title
GLADSTONE---Joe Quinn beat Brian Smith in a playoff hole to take the championship of the Upper Peninsula Golf Association's Men's Championship Sunday in Gladstone. Both men finished with 290's for the four rounds of the event, sending it into a playoff round. Three other golfers were a stroke back, and ten golfers were within six strokes. FINALS GLADSTONE---Three rounds are in the books at the Upper Peninsula Golf Association's Men's Championship at the Gladstone Golf Club. And there's a new leader as we head into Sunday's final round. Jim Markell shot a two-over 74 to take a one-stroke lead over Larry Bratonia, who shot a 77 after leaing the event the previous day. Markell is at 215 strokes through 54 holes. Bratonia and Mark Clements are in second place with a 216 through three rounds, one stroke behind Markell. Brian Smith and Joe Quinn are two strokes off the pace, two strokes back with 217's. Gladstone's Matt Argall is tied for seventh, with a 218, three strokes off the pace. Escanaba High School varsity golf coach Brian Robinette is in eighth place with a 219, four strokes off the pace. Former Eskymo golfer Mark Gauthier is in 41st spot with a 233, 18 strokes back. FINALS GLADSTONE---The Upper Peninsula Golf Association's Men's Championship Tournament has reached the halfway point at the Gladstone Golf Club. Larry Bratonia carded a three-under-par 69 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds. He is at five under for the tournament. Jim Markell is in second place, two stroke back. And Mark Clements is in third spot, four strokes back at -1. Other notables: Escanaba High School varsity golf coach Brian Robinette is in 12th place with a 148, nine strokes off the pace. Former Eskymo golfers Mark Gauthier and Kevin Gendron are in 39th place with 154's, which is 15 strokes behind Bratonia. Gladstone's Matt Argall is in seventh spot with a 146. FINALS GLADSTONE---Jim Markell has the lead after the first round of the Upper Peninsula Golf Association's Men's Championship Tournament in Gladstone. Markell shot a 68 for the first round, including two eagles and only one bogey in 18 holes. Markell has a one stroke lead over Larry Bratonia, Joe Quinn, and Chadd Wester, who all came into the club house with 69's. Four golfers, including Gladstone's Matt Argall, shot 71, and are three strokes off the pace after the first day of the tournament.
