Marquette Track Cruises To Cold Wins In Escanaba
ESCANABA---The Marquette High School track teams served notice on Tuesday that they will be the favorites at the U.P. Finals once the weather finally warms up.Marquette cruised to championships in both the boys and girls triangular meets under terrible weather conditions in Escanaba. The Redmen won the boys meet with 70.5 points, while Menominee was second with 53.5 points and Escanaba was third with 51 points. In the girls meet, Marquette dominated with 95 points. Escanaba had 44 points and Menominee was third with 33. In the girls meet, Marquette's Lindsey Rudden won the 1600 in 5 minutes, 19 seconds. She also won the 800 run in 2:40.07, and was part of the winning 1600 relay team. Liz Slagle won the 100 in 13.07 seconds, and she won the 200 dash in 29.65 seconds. Marquette's Amber Huebner won the 3200 (11:34) and the 400 (1:03.75). She was part of the winning 3200 meter relay team as well. For Escanaba, Lynsey Collins won the 300 meter low hurdles in 51.15 seconds. Collins was second in the 200-meter dash (29.95), and was second in the 100 (13.18). Collins was also a part of the 800-meter relay team that finished in second place. Escanaba's Jade Helin won the discus (100 ft 7 in) and was second in the shot put (30'10). In the boys meet, Marquette's Cole Rieboldt easily won the 1600 meter run (4:52), and he was part of the winning 3200 meter relay team. Menominee's Cody Peterson won both the discuss (122 feet flat) and shot put (45 ft 2 in). Marquette's David Bashaw won the 110 hurdles (17.69) and teammate Kyle Dickinson was second in 17.77. For Escanaba, Jake Walker won the 400-meter dash in 55.94 seconds. Walker was also second in the 800, finishing in 2:32. In the pole vault, Escanaba's Bryan Kwarciany was the winner at 10 feet, with Eskymo teammates Brent Picord second (8'06) and Sergei Lamarche third (8'01). Esky's Brendon Schuenke won the high jump in 5'04.10. |
